Tutorial: Creating a Custom Laser & Deploying It In-Game
Creating a Custom Laser is similar to the process of publishing an Artwork described above, but with one key difference –– namely the modular “Properties” you can set for this Item that will inform how it behaves within the Space it was designed for.
As mentioned above, the Space Laser template is a ‘specialized template’ created by LAMINA1 core team developers, which will allow you to create customizable items that will be immediately playable in the Space Lasers demo currently live on the LAMINA1 Hub.
To begin, you will first need to create an original laser content using the design software, AI engine, or artistic medium of your choice. Upload your cover image, making sure to follow the image type and size requirements dictated by the template, then select a 1:1 crop of the image for its display in-game and on the LAMINA1 Hub.
Again, by proceeding in the flow, you must confirm you are the original creator of this work, and/or that it was created ethically, with the original creator’s permission. If you are not, this Item may be reported and/or not displayed in the LAMINA1 Hub or Space Lasers demo once it becomes publicly viewable/tradeable to other L1 users.
Next, add a title, as well as a description for your Custom Laser according to the template’s parameters. Again, this information will be shown most places where your Item is viewed, as well as in your Hub Overlay where you will be able to equip the Item immediately after publication.
From there, input a few tags for your Item, noting that some tags will be pre-populated for you by the template’s developer. This will ensure your content is easily discoverable as part of the Space Lasers content ecosystem, and has the correct permissions to show up in the game.
Next, you will be taken to a new section of the flow called ‘Properties’ –– this section is unique to specialized templates designed for Spaces, and help define how your laser will look and behave when deployed into Space Lasers and other games/experiences.
These properties were set by the LAMINA1 core team, and are designed to allow creators to customize their lasers in a variety of ways, from color, to movement style, to number of shots fired per second –– but not so much that they’ll break the game’s design, difficulty, or play dynamics.
This part in the creation flow will be fully customizable by the Space/template developer, and inform the metadata properties the game engine pulls in to decide how the Item works in the game. For more information on how this works, see Item/content Integration section below.
From there, fill in the Rights & Co-Creators you want to be enforced during sales, trades, and uses of this Item in the future, then Publish it following the same steps described in the Artwork Template directions in the previous section.
Once you have completed the publication process, your Space Laser will appear in your ‘Items’ Tab on the LAMINA1 Hub. Additionally, if you open up the Space Lasers demo game, you will be able to find this Item in your Hub Overlay, equip it, and use it in game to earn points and unlock additional lasers and awards.
For more information on how a LAMINA1 Space takes the data input from a Template and uses it to create a playable in-game Item, see the Template Creation & Integration section below.
