Viewing & Equipping Items

In the initial Nyric Early Alpha we are currently testing on the LAMINA1 Hub, you cannot bring in and/or equip any Items you have collected or created from your Items tab into the game.

However, in Space Lasers, you can –– specifically, any previous lasers you have collected and/or any Custom Lasers you have created using the Creator Studio. To view and equip these items, you will need to open the Hub Overlay within the in-game experience.

Once you’ve earned 10 points and unlocked your first non-Blue laser of the game, you’ll probably want to equip it. This is where the LAMINA1 “Hub Overlay” comes into action.

To access the Hub Overlay (a.k.a. the SPACE PORTAL in this experience), click on the black and white LAMINA1 Icon in the upper right corner of your game screen. You can also use the command ‘O’ on your keyboard to open it up via shortcut.

This will pause the experience and pull up a side drawer that allows you to view and/or equip the NFT items you have currently available in your inventory. This inventory will include every Item you have collected by scoring points in the demo, as well as any weapons you have created using the ‘Custom Laser’ template in the Creator Studio.

Clicking on each Item in the Hub Overlay will reveal information about its creator, the Space the NFT was collected in, a short description of the item, as well as select tags, properties, and creator rights included in its metadata.

For this experience, NFTs displayed in the LAMINA1 Hub Overlay are also divided into two categories: ‘Usable’ and ‘Awards.’ You can toggle between them using the tabs above the NFT images.

  • Usable items can be equipped in game and swapped out with other weapons in the game by clicking on the ‘Equip’ button below the weapon’s image
  • Awards are achievements you unlock after hitting certain milestones in the experience (in this case, after earning 50 points). These are ‘static’ soul-bound NFTs that can be collected, but not deployed in the game.

On the back-end of the experience, NFTs in these categories are backed by different types of smart contracts –– ERC1155 for Usable items and ERC1155 with the ERC5633 soulbound extension for Awards. For more information on why we chose these smart contracts and why we recommend them for future Spaces developers, see NFT Smart Contracts in the “Item/Content Integration” section below.

In the future, we plan to launch and share an open source plug-in of the Hub Overlay to all LAMINA1 developers so they can directly port it into their experiences and customize it if they’d like.

As more Spaces are published, users will also be able to use the Hub Overlay to move between different Spaces without leaving an experience, as well as send/receive assets, check your token balances, access your identity information etc. –– essentially anything you can do within the LAMINA1 Hub itself.
