Username Guidelines & Recommendations
While not strictly required for Lamina1 Hub users, we also recommend that all users take into consideration the latest ENS and DNS guidelines while creating their usernames. Failing to do so could limit the interoperability of your metaverse identity in the future.
This means following the additional recommendations when setting a username via the Lamina1 Identity Service:
- Keep all usernames between 1 and 59 characters
- Do not begin or end your username with a hyphen
- Do not begin your username with a number or digit
- Avoid using spaces or periods in your username
- Limit your use of emojis and special characters (!, ;, *, etc.)
- Note that all L1 usernames will be converted to lowercase in the back end of this process (e.g. usernames are not case sensitive in the Lamina1 ecosystem)
To simplify the process of selecting a username that meets all the above guidelines and parameters, the Lamina1 Hub validates your username before registration. If the username you input is not valid or compatible with the recommendations above, a warning message will be displayed.
You can check to see if a username meets standard ENS/DNS criteria by checking it via this website. Additionally, you can check to see if an emoji you’d like to use in your username is supported by checking the dedicated ENSIP-15 emoji guidelines here.
NOTE: Right now, the LAMINA1 Hub does not limit users from registering usernames with curse words, slurs, and/or explicit terminology. However, having these terms in your username may limit your ability to enter future metaverse Spaces and experiences. This access will be determined directly by individual creators and developers as the LAMINA1 Hub expands.
NOTE: Any premium usernames that start with lamina1, l1, or similar variations will also not be possible to reserve on the Lamina1 Hub. The Lamina1 core team has also restricted usernames attempting to impersonate key Lamina1 team members, architectural components and/or those attempting to employ common phishing tactics (e.g. reserving names like admin, root, webmaster, selecting scammy unicode characters, etc.) when reserving a Premium username.
